Media Mayhem

The media is a one of the most dynamic constants in daily life - it will constantly be bringing us news of current events almost in real time due to the significant advances in technology over the last decade.  This morning on CNN these were three of the highlighted, "breaking news" topics.  How are they a representation of our current society? Which article interested you the most? Which one would have you clicked on first if you would have simply been browsing CNN.com?  Although these articles cover extremely diverse topics what are some similarities among the articles?  Share your thoughts on how the media and advances in technology are shaping our society?

  2. These articles represent our diverse societies around the world and what is all happening. Personally, the Ebola Outbreak one interested me most. If I would have been browsing CNN I would have for sure clicked on the Ebola one first or the Brad and Angelina one. I honestly wouldn't have cared to read about the French terrorist guy.
The similarities between the articles are that they are all the "Breaking News" around the world. In someway all three of these articles could effect anyone around the world. For example, not everyone in the US just are fans of Brad and Angelina. They could have fans literally around the world. Also, the Ebola outbreak is huge news to the whole world. Whether it is affecting your country, to someone you may know. Or maybe someone you know is working on creating a vaccine for it.
Media and advances in technology shape our society big time. I think that the media only shares what they want us to know or what will get their company the most views and ratings. They show us what is popular. The advances in our technology has changed how we see the news. Back in the day it used to be just news paper or radio, now we can literally grab our tiny little smart phone is see or read almost anything.

  3. These three news articles tells us what is happening in other diverse countries around the world. The article that interested me the most was the Ebola Outbreak article. I didn't realize that there has been so many deaths that have been from this very serious disease.

If I was just browsing CNN, I would picked the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie article, all because they are the most familiar to me. These all are breaking news and they can affect you at anytime, anywhere. Ebola could easily spread from country to country. terrorist could be anywhere that you may or may not be. whether it is your iPhone or iPad, you will always be able to find all the breaking news in our world. there are all kinds of news applications that you can use to find or get the news from outside the U.S.

  4. I think they represent that our society sometimes forgets about the bigger issues and the issues in other places all over the world. Once big news (whether tragic or happy) happens in other places all over the world, we pay attention for only a little bit. When famous people have some kind of drama, we see it for months all over the TV and magazines. It shows that we care a lot about people who don't really need to have all the attention on them. The article that interested me the most would be the Ebola deaths. I think its tragic that this is happening in another country and there is little that can be done to stop it.
I would have clicked on the Ebola death toll for sure. But shortly after I would have clicked on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie because it is a must to stay current on what celebrities are doing. One similiarity that I found is that they are important to different groups of people. The Ebola article is important mostlyfor the people that it is effecting, the terrorist article is effecting the people of France, and the marriage annoucement effects their family and people who are die-hard, need to know, celebritiy fans.
I feel like media is shaping it both in good and bad ways. It is good because now we can communicate with people that are far away, know what is happening in the world because of the internet, and it can be used to find knowledge that is greatly needed. A way it is shaping it in a bad way is that some people rely on their phone too much. Basic math is forgotten because phones has calculators. Even talking to peple face to face has become something that our generation struggles at (or at least me). It has shaped our society in both positive and negative ways.

I hope the Ebola outbreak is put to an end. It seems that the road map is trying to put an end to it, and for everyone's sake I truly hope they do. I read that thousands of people in Africa have been effected and killed by this outbreak.
I just hope it doesn't spread world wide because then we would have a crysis on our hands. These people in Africa have been getting treatment and care. For example, Dr. Friedman is an issued doctor for the treatment of these people and his input on the situation isn't great news He said, " It's worse than I feared", to me that doesn't sound very promising. I just want to know if they can get a cure for this virus before it spreads somewhere other than Africa!

  6. These three articles were very interesting to read, as they represent our society in many ways. The first, and problably most obvious representation, is the drama aspect in the articles. Our society, in my opinion, is fixated and entertained by problems and drama. I did enjoy the Ebola topic, however, because I am interested in the medical side of the disease and how it spreads and multiplies so fast. If I were searching through CNN.com for news, I probably would have checked the Ebola video out first. A similarity, being as different as they are, in these three topics, would be like, scale. All three of these events are major. Media and advances in technology, honestly, are making us a more dramatic world.

  7. These three articles represent our current society by telling us about some of the different conflicts going on in the world right now. Even though the marriage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie isn't a conflict, the article does touch on gay marriage which has been a controversial subject for a while.

I was interested most in the Ebola article and would have read that one first as well. I think it's the most important article because of the excessive amounts of damage that this disease has done in the past and is doing right now.

Media advances and technology are affecting us in both positive and negative ways. We can get the information about the Ebola virus spreading, a terrorist group in the middle east, or Brad and Angelina's wedding instantaneously. This could help the US as a country because we know what's going on before the problem physically reaches us.

  8. These three articles show that our society thinks that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt getting married is on the same level as an Ebola outbreak and the French trying to make an arrest on a terrorist. If I were to just happen upon one these articles I would have first clicked on Angelina and Brad's Wedding announcement, all though, the article that I was actually interested in the most was the "Raid on ISIS suspect in French Rivera". In my opinion, the similarity between these articles would have to be the impact that they all make on the American mind. They all arose some sort of emotion. The Ebola outbreak excites our hysterical and over dramatic side, where the terrorist chase excites our adventurous side and the wedding excites our romantic side.

The advances in technology are what make it easier for us to gain access to the articles. Which makes it easier for our society to gossip on the latest news. This all makes it easier for us to keep up with what is happening in our world instead of always being a day or too behind.

  9. After I had read the first two articles that involve life or death situations, I was shocked to see the third article about a marriage. How is Brad Pitt's marriage more important than those suffering from a deathly outbreak? I'll never understand. Our society is blinded by 'Hollywood's Top Stories' that we aren't even aware of what is going on outside the world of hip hop and movie stars. It isn't just the people that have caught this nasty disease that are afffected; the families, friends, neighbours and even the workers are all suffering. The country effected may not be the richest, but that doesn't make their people any less important to our world. If the disease was to hit here, I know the world would react more profoundly then having it in the top three highlights, next to a celebrity marriage.

To know that people in Africa are living a scary movie scene everyday they wake up is unfair. I am sitting here reading in disbelief that people in the world that i am apart of are going through this. I couldn't see myself living in that. this is why some times i state when you think your situations are bad their is always someone out there with a worse one. Africa is known to be one of the poorest countries but it was not always like that.
Reading what is going on with the people in Africa makes me heart broken and i feel for them because no one would like to know that they are dying and there isn't anything that they could do about it. I really hope that someone gets figured out on the behalf of the citizens in Africa, not only for their safety but for their health. If i had to chose one of the articles it would be about the African people. The articles represent today's society because they're non-fiction stories about issue that are going on in the world. The African article interest me the most because i am striving to become a lawyer so learning about issues in the world is always interesting to me. media is a fast way to get news around the world.

All three articles represents everyday life and it speaks about our diverse society. The first article grasped my attention for many different reasons. I believe I would have chose the first article because I like to scam through and learn about different aspects of life. Many people all around the world take things for granted not knowing people in Africa are struggling through everything. I believe the media is helping others realize everything good and bad going on all across the world. I didn't notice how many deaths have acured in Africa.

  12. Breaking news is what gives us the time to see whats happening around the world and what other people are doing. Sometimes it could be news, tragedy, or gossip. In our current society many people want to hear different kind of news. When there is an outbreak of disease, everyone needs to know about this because they could possibly be affected. Sometimes people want to help out during this situation while others rather watch and not be affected. All of the articles have a certain interest to me as they are happening in the world around me. With the outbreak in Africa this could possibly affect me as many people are getting infected and even killed. Even though it is across the sea transportation across the sea could bring this over with no one aware of it. Certain type of gossip can interest people, either about marriage or any other. Gossip is around everyone. I would first click on the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie one first as I know who they are due to them being celebrities. All of theses topics are diverse but have many similar aspects. They all are whats happening in the world around them. They are the news of the day. The media is what travels the news across the world. Allowing us to learn more about people, disease and cases that are happening. If there was no social media or technology there would be no to travel news or gossip to people who are intrigued with theses stories. Certain people don't like to read books but rather articles do to the stories length. Having theses it is allowing anyone access to learn more about the world around them in a click of a bottom.

  13. All of these articles show our societies interests in what is happening all around the world. We are interested in Celebrities rise to success and we are inspired by their stories. We have also shown a lot more attention to terrorists movements and attacks after the tragic attacks on 9/11. Ebola outbreaks and epidemics are big news to us because we are a country that is a destination point for people in need and we help out countries that are seeking help.

If I was browsing CNN, I would have picked the Ebola outbreak over any other article and then the ISIS article. These are the things that I am interested in and like to stay informed on breaking news. Jollie and Pitt are extremely in touch with Africa and Both share a passion for helping out their countries. So the Ebola outbreak has affected them. And the ISIS article can affect all of us and the rest of the world. ISIS views Christians and other religious sects as devil worshipers looking to affect or hurt our society for a negative influence. Technology has made a huge impact on our society for the speed it spreads

  14. They all represent our society in different ways. We like to hear about criminal mischief, we worry about illnesses, and we certainly love to gossip.

The article that interested me the most was the post about the Ebola outbreak, there is a large number of cases running through West Africa (like 3,069), and the death toll stands so far at 1,552 people. Now that is quite a number to have, so I wanted to find out how what the WHO have been doing to cut back on the increasing numbers, as well as what they were doing to help the sick.
If I were merely browsing through the CNN website, I would have certainly clicked on the celebrity news first, just because a majority of people would do the same thing, because gossip is certainly less boring than criminals and illnesses.
Some similarities of these articles is that they are all written about “doings”, such as people getting sick, a person fleeing from police, and two actors being married. They also have to do with interests of the people, you want to have articles that will catch your attention, rather than being a boring story about how fast the grass grows or which pig won the blue ribbon at the county fair.
Media plays a big part in our society, even though they deny they have any problems in advancing it. They show shooters on TV, but they do not show people streaking on a baseball field because they’re afraid it will make more people want to do the same, but really, what’s the difference?

  15. The three articles show all the different things that are going on in the world and showing the diversity of it. The article I enjoyed the most was the one about the Ebola outbreak. I had no idea that this was a problem. Seeing these on CNN the first article I would have clicked on would have been the one about the celebrities getting married. I am more in tune with that kind of stuff than with worldwide problems or headlines.
All three of these articles touch base on different things happen throughout the world. The first article talks about the Ebola outbreak, the second one talks about the raid on the French Riviera and finally the third talks about a celebrity couple getting married but not until it was legal for everyone to get married. The last two articles deal with things happening in France, good and bad.
Media is getting the attention of not only the area that is effected by the headline but everywhere around the world. It is keeping everyone in tune with what is going on and maybe getting help and support when needed.

  16. From helping a country in need, to getting married in another country. America is represented in the following three articles. The article the interested me the most would be, the marriage between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Mostly because I enjoyed watching their movies as I aged. The technology is advancing so much. The time that that it takes us to learn about world events is almost slim to none. It is truly amazing.

  17. I really hope that this Ebola Virus is getting under control. what we were told The this Road map is trying to make a cure so that Ebola is gone . What have i read about it this that thousands of people have die whwne the came into contact with this virus.
I hope that this virus won't reach the cities in the world and if it does then we are in very trouble.

  18. The 3 main topics are represented by different cultures of our evolving society. If I was on CNN.com, I would have clicked on the article in which Brad and Angelina getting married. I find this to be the most interesting topic due to the fact that I know who these people are and I know more about.
Some of the similarity of these topics is that they were all published on August 28, 2014 and they all try to inform the world on its many issues.
Media and advanced technology are shaping our society by making it easier to find out news all over the world and making it travel faster and safer then before.

  19. All three of these articles take a different issue and tell a story. Take the Ebola article for instance, It tells us information we never would have known and a very important issue because we all could be affected by it. The raid on the ISIS article is about terrorism and how people are sneaking into countries and wreaking havoc on countries and causing terror everywhere. Jolie and Pit arent exactly the highest priority in society, or shouldnt be at least but the story behind the marriage is. Gay marriage is a huge controversy in our country, everyone has their opinion about it and argue, it effects everybody. Personally i would have picked the Ebola article because i feel it is the biggest issue out of all of them, people are dying because of this.
Media is huge now a days. We can receive information after an event happens almost immediately because of social media and the internet. This is allowing us to be more educated on events around the world good and bad. Overall all three of these articles tell a story that effects us in one way or another. I just wish society focused on truly important issues and was aware of the things around them.

  20. These three articles are a representation of our current society because these are the hot topics that the everyday working class American is interested in. For example; Medical Health, Terrorism, and Celebrity Gossip. The article that interests me the most is the Ebola outbreak because this topic more important, interesting, and realistic. The ISIS and celebrity new gossip will most likely affect the everyday American; however, the Ebola outbreak can very well spread to the United States and become an epidemic on a Global Scale. This in turn, will affect the American population. More realistic topics are always the most interesting. I would have clicked on the Ebola outbreak article first because it is the most interesting and is affecting lives in Africa which could very well spread to the United States, in which it very well has although the 2 patients have been treated. The similarities that these articles share include affecting the world population by the Ebola and ISIS formation and Celebrity news, making young Americans aspire to be like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Media and technological advances are shaping our society by allowing for the spread of news faster to all regions of the country; if news is spread by officials on the internet then people will be able to react faster to news like the Ebola virus. This allows scientists to quickly create a drug, performing as an antidote to fight or mask the Ebola virus.

  21. These news topics are a representation of our current society because they show the diversity in our world and how many different things are all happening at one time. Brad and Angelina’s wedding is a headliner alongside the Ebola outbreak, this shows that different countries have different priorities.
The Ebola outbreak interested me the most because serious outbreaks, such as this one, can wipe out an entire population and it’s upsetting to hear that health workers are also dying due to a shortage of protective gear and improper use of the gear. This makes me glad that I live in a safe country. I would have clicked on this article if I would’ve been browsing CNN.com because my two friends from home, Shayla and Keisha Hertz (Shay played volleyball here), are in Africa right now on a missions trip. Although they are in Ghana and the Ebola outbreak is in West Africa, it is still alarming to hear that this illness is spreading rapidly throughout Africa.

Some similarities include that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got married in France this weekend and there was a raid in the French Riviera. All three articles address important events that have happened recently.
The media shapes our society because we, as readers, focus on the less important issues around the world. As I stated above, a wedding was a breaking news topic as well as an Ebola outbreak. In reality, the outbreak of an illness that has killed over 1500 people should be more alarming than a famous wedding. Advances in technology, in relation to the raid on an ISIS suspect in the French Riveria, are shaping our society by increasing the safety of our world. Because of online news, we all now know that acts of terrorist are still present and that theres a massive Ebola outbreak in Africa.

  23. They represent what is going on in society by the latest news that are happening in different environments. The article that most interested me was the “Ebola Outbreak”, because it describes a concern towards an international level. The Ebola outbreak tends to happen more in countries underdevelopment, a concern I have, since recently coming from South America. I would have clicked on the “Ebola Outcome”, because “ epidemic” or near case scenarios, interests me the most. The similarities they all have, is that they are related to France. Whether they were happening in France or happening to someone from France or from a French colony.

With the speed of information being posted, at the rate per hour, the chances of not being informed about different situations in the world, have become rarer in people’s daily life. Thus, it has become a normality to be 24hs per day updated with incoming information about most subjects, whether these are trusting sources or not.

  24. the wedding is a great one because they had there wedding in France and spent a lot of money on that.
i always wanted to go there too by the way lol

  25. Media has taken a massive drop in quality since the advent of click bait journalism. I love technology, but link bait articles ruin online news for me. Cnn and other mainstream news are always less likely to use link baits then some, but they still attempt to use fear to get clicks.

These articles show that that our current society are petty, fear-driven sheep able to be manipulated by celebrity wedding gossip and the ebola non-issue.

I probably would have read about the ISIS suspect, but only to see how the police were handling it.
