Don't quit your day job but....

Review the following slide show.  What are at least three trends you notice from one millionaire to another?  What business idea interests you the most?  Why?  If someone came up to you and offered you a million dollars to tell them your best entrepreneur idea what would your idea be? Or if you want to keep it a secret, what issue would it address?  Why?

  1. The made there first million before the age of 25. Most of the people Made their millions by setting up a website. Most of the people dropped out of college. The business idea that I liked the most was the guy who took Dell public. He introduced the world to computers at affordable prices. If someone came up to me and offered me a million dollars to tell them my idea, I'd keep it a secret because the Idea could make me more then just 1 Million dollars.

  2. Three trends that I noticed are that all of them were young, created something on the lines of the internet or computers, and a lot of their advice was "its never to early to start."
The whole creating a website thing doesn't interest me at all, but if I had to pick it would be Michael Dell creating Dell computers. I think the idea of creating something concrete that you can hold in your hands.
My best entrepreneur idea would have something to do with inventing/creating something that would better us. I have thought of many things over the years that I would like to invent, but I really can't think of any of them right now. It would have something to do with making a task easier, making it more efficient for us.

  3. All of the billionaires mentioned in the article have made their first million around the same age as all of us. The business ideas that interest me are the website design and creation. Unfortunately theirs already a website for everything and creating one now would be difficult because you would have to keep up with all of the trends and all the imporvments that are out their and make sure that everything is up to date all the time.

If someone were to come up to me and ask me to tell them my idea and they would give me a million dollars, I would decline. I would try to build on my idea and make worth more than a million. Though at the moment I don't have a billion/trillion dollar idea. I'm pretty ordinary. The point is I don't have an idea that I can give and make money off of, but if I did I wouldn't just sell it to the first buyer. I would build it up to something and create and industry.

    1. I looked at the Best Public College Values and then the best colleges to got out-of-state for and their ultimately the same. They are all in a different order but they are all the same. Unfortunately WSC didn't make it on the list.

  4. I noticed that the entrepreneur's all took huge risks in starting their companies, they also had support from other people, and their businesses started out small. These men and women knew what they wanted and went for it. I think it would be interesting to start some kind of social network. The way that Twitter or Facebook blew up is amazing to me. It's hard to come up with new ideas in social networking but people are still doing it. If I was to be offered a million dollars I would make a type of microwave that makes food cold instead of hot. I had the idea when I was little and I've stuck with it ever since.

  5. One thing I noticed that was a trend was that all of them said the advice was to get out there and be passionate about what are you going to do. I think the yearbook.com interested me the most. I can keep up with people I knew in high school throug Facebook, but people who came before this generation didn't have that and now they can communicate with each other. I honestly don't have an idea but an issue it would address would be something about education. Something people could go on on the internet or download an app. I noticed that all of the children I know know how to run an IPhone or an IPad so I would create something educational for them to play. Instead of them playing something that is not benefitting them at all, they can play something that's fun and educational.

    1. I looked at 9 Amazing Technologies to Change Your World and it was super interesting to read. Some of those things seem like they would be in a science fiction movie, not real life. The best I thought was the phone screen that adjusted to your eyes, like different prescription lenses would do.

  6. One trend I noticed was that each and everyone they presented to us is that they made their first million dollars at a very young age. They all created something that deals with the internet. and the third one is that they are either founders or co-founders of the website.
The business idea that interested me the most was the Facebook one. Mark is a multi millionaire living the dream. Facebook was a huge website to be on back in the day and it is still growing today.
I would invent a way for our computers to do our homework for us. it would be so much easier on our brains!

    1. I chose the best out of state colleges that were affordable. It was surprising seeing that the Univ. of North Carolina was number one on the list. I thought for sure that would be a higher tuition college to attend. there were other colleges that made me look twice on also.

  7. If a guy came up to me with that offer. The idea I would have came up with is a new cell phone that everyone can relate to and that would blow peoples mine to the point where they have to have it with affordable prices. But if someone came up to me offering me a million dollars for my idea I would keep it a secret because I could make a lot more off of it than 1 million dollars.

  8. Most of them had made there millions on the internet, setting up websites and creating new ideas that were not out there. They got ahead of the game before anyone else could. The one that caught my attention the most was the Hear and play Music group. This is because I have never heard of this and Ive always kind of wish I could play a musical instrument. If someone ever did come up to me I would keep it a secret. YOu wouldn't want to tell your idea and have them take it away from you. It would involve a tanning instrument. To help apply lotion. No on has yet found a way besides with there own hand. There has to be something out there that can help apply it equally around your body without wasting the lotion as the price of the lotion in not cheap.

    1. Everything eventually is worked down and starts to break. Now a days everything seems to be like this and either has to be replaced or fixed multiple times. More and more people are using transportation which leads to pot holds and pressure of the equipment. The cost to fix all of this at once is to expensive and the money is not there. Many of the projects are put aside which is compromising the safety of the citizen.

  9. Three trends I noticed from one millionaire to another were that they were all very young when they earned their first million dollars- as an 18-year-old, I would have no clue what to do with a million dollars! When you’re still in high school your priorities are a lot different than when you have your own house and family, therefore you would spend your money a lot differently. A second trend I noticed were that they all encouraged others to start a business or website very young. Catherine Cook who made her first million by age 18 said, “The worst that can happen if you fail now is that you have firsthand experience to make your next venture a success”, this is very true- if you fail while you’re still young, you can still go to university and get an education to get a good job. Your life isn’t over because your idea didn’t take off as well as you hoped it would. The third and final trend I noticed after reading the powerpoint is that most of these millionaires created websites. Michael Dell (Dell computers) was the only person who didn’t get rich from creating a website, but without his computer you can’t even use a website.
The business idea that interested me the most was the Hear and Play Music Group. Jermaine Griggs created a website that teaches piano, drums and guitar by ear. This interests me because I’ve always wanted to learn how to play to guitar but I can’t imagine sitting down with an instructor and actually learning, I’d like to do it on my own time. Learning to play by ear sounds like it would be difficult though.
If someone came up to my and offered me a million dollars to tell them your best entrepreneur idea it would be something that i’ve already came up with. My best friend’s dad, Glen, got permanently paralyzed from the chest down during a back surgery and now daily activities, such as going to the bathroom and getting out of bed, are an absolute nightmare for him. He kept telling me how challenging it was for him to pull down his pants (we are very close so this wasn’t weird for me) so his mom and I came up with a solution for him- velcro seams! Grandma Dot and I took all his basketball shorts home and cut open the left seam in each leg and sewed a velcro strip onto them. Now all he has to do is pull on the seam and he can easily remove his pants. This made his and the nurses lives a lot easier.

    1. The popular slideshow I read was the Worst College Majors for Your Career. It interested me because I wanted to see if my major (criminal justice) would be in there, but it wasn’t. What did shock me was that social work was considered one of the worst college majors for your career- this was a major that also interested me, but I’m glad I didn’t choose to pursue it. I’m very interested in photography- not to make money but just to take neat photos. I’m not studying photography because I knew before reading this powerpoint that photographers don’t make a lot of money. Another major that shocked me was exercise science. This is something I seriously considered taking at the University of Regina because as an athlete, anything involving exercise that pays money, sounds like an exciting career.

  10. The 3 top trends that interest me the most was Catherine Cook, Sean Belnick and Jermain Griggs. Those 3 Grasped my attention most because At the age 18 Catherine Cook made her first million. He advice also interested me because she mentioned "Stop thinking about it and go for it." Sean Belnick also made his first million at the age of 16 and his word of advice was "its never to start to young", because he began working hard at the age of 14 years old. Jermaine Griggs word of advice interest me most because to be great at something you have to practice it the correct way and to keep GRINDING to achieve your goal. He mentioned "study those who have come before you, and find people with the same dreams and aspirations as you," which in my eyes means to look up to someone else's work and work upon that to reach their potential. Those three interested me the most because I've realized its never to early to achieve a goal you want to accomplish because Catherine, Sean & Jermaine started young and now their making millions. If someone came up to me and offered me millions to the them my best entrepreneur idea I would tell them I want to be an accountant. I want to be an accountant because I want to be involved in a high level of accounting which would be to actually work up balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and/or annual basis. Depending on the needs of the business, other specializations can include tax accounting, a huge area of potential work. I also can keep my own day-to-day bookkeeping records but would rather get professional help with their taxes.

  11. I noticed that all of the stories I have just read all deal with people from the age of 10 to 26. It kind of surprises me because how can a 10 year old become a millionaire before going to college, or even high school? How are they able to make more money than a person who studied 4 years at a university? Not only were they all young, but they were creative. They all thought outside the box and did what they actually wanted to do, they didn't follow in anyone's footsteps and I actually really admire that. In most of their "Advice to Entrepreneurs", they said be passionate, stpop just thinking about it, it is never too early to start etc. So if I was to magically come up with a million dollar idea, it would definitely be social media inflicted. Why? Because that is all we do these days and that will not change unless every smart phone blows up. I am thinking about an app that is kind of like find my iphone, but it isn't internet based. Maybe I would pitch this idea to apple and come up with a tracking device to track where people's phones are, but the control would be under apple and the owner. Noone else. Because if your someone like me who loses their phone almost on a weekly bases and happens to be canadian going to school in the states, find my iphone isn't that helpful unless I have wifi. So lets make a tracking device and stop these hooligans (myself included) from losing their phones and having panic attacks because mommy and daddy will not be happy.

    1. There will always be something in this world that needs to be fixed or improved. This article is telling us what is on the top to do list such as construction on the roads etc. In my oppinon I can not stress enough how important flight delays are. It's not just frustrating but heart breaking to the passengers when your flight gets delayed. For example, On August 15th of this year, I had this master plan to surprise my boyfriend (Spencer) in his hometown in Minnesota after a long summer of being 3000 miles away from each other. He thought I was coming the night after but I was actually arriving at 3 pm the day before. My flight gets delayed by an hour (no biggy right?) but then the connecting flight I had after that I only had an hour lay over, so now I was going to miss my flight. I ended up having to stay another four hours in Toronto then wait 2 hours in Minneapolis. Flight delays is something that we seriously need to work on, especially during the hollidays because the same thing has happened to me before. If it is the weather, understandable but if it is flat out because of people being late. Nuh uh.

  12. The three trends that I noticed between these millionaires were they all made one million dollars before 25 years of age, they do what they love to do which enabled them to form their business, they all took great risks to be where their at now. They could have been bankrupt before the age of 20 but they were smart enough to produce a successful business. One business idea that interests me the most is inventing a human like (robot) pitching machine to simulate a real pitcher that will improve the hitters hand-eye coordination and hitting mechanics. This business idea interests me the most because I love Baseball and I want to see kids improve not to mention making a couple million would be nice too. If someone came up to me and offered me a million dollars for my human like robotic pitching machine, I would most certainly cell it to him because it todays economy there is a good chance my product would fail and after investing so much time and effort along with a lot of money, I could become bankrupt before the age of 19. I would take the million dollars and invest some money into some shares to hopefully make a profit.

  13. Some trends I notice throughout all of the millionaires is that they are all young and not necessarily looking to become a millionaire. Many of them say when looking for money you will more times than not be less successful, they say you need to find something you love and are passionate about. Another big part of becoming successful is surrounding yourself with positive and encouraging people, get rid of the negative ones. I was really interested in Mark Zuckerberg, the guy who started Facebook. He was the only millionaire that I have heard of. I watched a movie on him and I found it interesting how much hard work and tough times he had to make Facebook.
If someone offered me a million dollars for my best idea I think I would start something where you can use leftover food and send or give to those in need. I mean food that can be kept and is still healthy to eat. I worked in a restraint and I couldn’t believe how much food was thrown away for little reasons because it wasn’t cooked right or things like that. Another thing could be the amount of food you throw away is what you have to send to those in need.
I’m glad I took time to read this because I was thinking about looking into social work for a while. I really had no idea about the financial side of it. I had no idea that many of these are poor career choices. Now I know once I find something I want to do I will look into it and research it more.

  14. I've noticed the best colleges to got out-of-state and the best public college values. In my point of view i believe they are both similar. They are similar but in some what different orders. The bad part about it from my view is that Williston State College that I am attending right now and Monroe Community College that I attended last year aren't on the list.

  15. They all started their ideas really young, all of them made there millions before the age of 25, and they all love what they do. Michael Dell's idea interested me the most. I think it was really smart of him to come up with his own computer business and sale them at a lower price than the competition. That was really smart of him. I would keep my idea a secret, because it could be worth more than a million.

  16. Three main trends that I perceived in the entrepreneurs are: 1) Most were not afraid to take risks or begin something new, 2) they loved what they did and believed in their idea, and 3) were determined to proceed with that idea (clearly they were all young). The most outstanding idea for me was Michael’s Dell. Even though technology is not my area, I find it very interesting and promising for today and the future.

As I pursue my psychological law career, if it happens to be that I am offering 1 million dollars to begin an entrepreneurial business, I would like to work on developing new or better treatment for depression and anxiety disorders. In order to enhance the understanding of the chemical and psychological process of the brain, thus, develop a less harmful treatment for depression and anxiety disorder.

I would like to work in this area because of the advancement it took in today’s society. Not only the tendencies are shown in younger adults, but in elderly people as well, as the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) claim that 18% of the United States population have been affected by depression/anxiety. I believe that finding the best resources for this treatment would be a great success not only in business ($42 billion a year, is the cost of these treatments in the US) but in peoples personal success. Now, I just need the 1 million dollars to begin .

    1. The article “Worst Majors to Pursue in College” was quite interesting, as not only it was giving suggestions towards what is the current rate salary for a specific graduation together with its pros and cons in the market, but it gave suggestions to other curses one could pursue. The article helped me understand better how important it is to be in tune with the continuous changes in the market and its needs in order to achieve greater success (personal and financial).

The main point I can relate to this, is that after finishing Human Resources, and, perceiving I didn’t enjoy as much the work, today, I pursue not only what I like but what I can make a good financial profit.

  17. The trends that I noticed was that all of them were passionate about what they were trying to achieve. And they all took a risk to accomplish their goals. Whenever you want to achieve a dream or a goal you have to be willing to take the risks. I also noticed that they were are all pretty young. I would think that my favorite one was the guy who took Dell Public. If I was offered a million dollars I would put that money in towards a sports psychiatry program for young athletes. I think that our societys are revolving around sports so a lot of people are participating in these activities I think that the psychiatry behind sports is the most beneficial and important parts that need to be taken away and building a program to help people train that part of the game will improve it that much. Physical skills are practiced a lot but mental skills are almost never practiced.

  18. I believe all these guys are successful because they are very passionate about what they do. They all think that starting at a younger age gives you a better chance at success. They also believe in not making your career about the money, but doing something you will enjoy. If someone asked me for my best idea, I would tell them its a little far fetched but this is it. A device that has someway of tracking all your items. For example if you lose your watch, this devise has some way of scanning it and telling you exactly where it is. You could either scan the items you tend to lose a lot or somehow have it set up with some kind of transmitter. Its a little far fetched I know, but I think it could sell.

  19. Three of the main trends with these millionaires that I happened to notice, were, first, that everyone one of them became successful at a young age in life. Next, I noticed that they all had followed some kind of dream they had through research, using the internet. Lastly, I saw that these young millions used the internet to help promote and advertise their products that they were selling. A business idea I would be interested in, would be pertaining to the reality market. I have a dream to some day be buying decent homes and renting them out to people, such as college students, for a fair price.

  20. My 2nd blog that I am doing for extra credit is on 12 least Tax friendly states in America. The 3 trends that I notice are these states are all one of the biggest populated cities and towns in America, all state sales tax is 4.0% or higher, and these states have gas taxes and fees above $0.30. Obviously these are not big enough factors to influence a family to moving to one of these states like California but it in the long term it will amount to a lot of money gone to tax.

  21. They were all driven, risk takers, that believed in studying their opponents, their staffs and their resources.

I was interested in Flippa because you can buy and sell digital property in order to make passive income.

If I was offered a million dollars I would sell a novel story. I dont see any way to improve online activity at this point in time.
