My innovative idea is the Shinkansen in Japan. It is a high speed bullet train used for transportation. It has capabilities of reaching upwards of 320 km/hr or 198mph. It is becoming of of the most common ways to travel in modern Japan due to the lack of space for cars, also the cost effectiveness of operating the train versus driving a car.

    4. The shinkansen trains are pretty awesome (I didn't know about them). It's interesting to see how they haven't had any fatal accidents during its history, and how well prepared, detailed, and organized they are in their daily operation.

  2. Hypersonic ‘spaceliner’ is pretty crazy. I think that it could possible but in the future. But, then again, who wants to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars just to cut down on travel time. The normal person doesn’t have that money.
I think all the inventions were all worthwhile. They were all advances of each other. If they wouldn’t have been created then we wouldn’t be where we are today.
My transportation technology I find intriguing is Solar Roadways. As explained in my presentation earlier this year, we could turn every rood, parking lot, sidewalk, etc. into solar panels that could be driven upon while collecting energy. http://www.solarroadways.com/intro.shtml
With the poop powered bus, I first thought “Wow! People are pooping on this busing making it go.” After reading it, I think this is actually a pretty good idea!

    1. I think that the Solar Roadways are a super cool idea and that they should be taken seriously. If Solar Roadways became a big thing, it could help out everyone in many different ways.

    2. Solar Roadways could be the roads of the future. I hope we can live to see the day.

    3. Great idea. I hope that they will be implemented some day.

    4. solar roadways sound incredible. The way the road actually lights up and can warn you when there is wildlife on the road ahead would be a huge advantage to nighttime driving. The cost is not friendly however as you explained in your presentation, they would eventually pay for themselves. A very neat invention.

    6. Solar Roadways are a great idea as it will save gas being used which pollute the Earth, providing a new clean energy that is also not harmful to humans.

  3. The Hypersonic Spaceliner is a little much to me. I have not had to travel very far away on airplane but I did go to Jamaica and that was a long flight. I didn't mind how long it was really. People these days are so spoiled and all we can think about is how we can do this faster and right now. If this thing works and doesn't damage anything or anybody, go for it but I think I will stick with normal planes.
I know absolutely nothing about the history of transportation. The one thing I found most worthwhile was the submarine thing. I love the ocean and whenever new technology is built for that, I know about it. There are many little submersibles that go and survey the ocean. I believe these are worthwhile because we know so little about the ocean and I find that fascinating.

My first thought was why not? I mean waste doesn't do anything else, why not let it benefit us and be more environmentally friendly.

I never thought about how little we know about about the ocean and how useful submarines would be. Good point!

  5. I think the Spaceliner would be an awesome way to get around the world faster. I think it will become reality due to the advancement in technology by 2050.

I though the most worthwhile invention was the airplane. Each year, planes seem to shape technology. http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2012-04/jets-future/ This is a web site talking about plane technologies in the next upcoming decades.

I think the "Number Two" is a great way to eliminate 30% more emissions then standard diesel buses. Its an idea that could shape our society.

  6. I think that the hypersonic space liner will likely become a reality one day. As of right now I wouldn’t be the first one to try- when I read the first couple of lines the first thing that came into my mind was “thats going to kill a lot of people if it crashes going that fast”. This seems a bit scary to be able to travel half way across the world in just 90 minutes.

I think the most worthwhile invention was the submarine invented by Cornelis Drebble in the 17th century. “The Turtle” was designed to make an underwater attack on British ships by attaching gunpowder to the hull of their vessels using the screw-like device on the front of the machine, drilling a hole in the hull and leaving a time-fuse bomb. I have always been interested in submarines- the way that they create a whole other life for humans underwater infatuates me. I think the submarine was a worthwhile invention for the Navy because the ocean is basically a battlefield and they have more secrecy than ships/boats when it comes to attacking.

My innovative transportation technology I found was suspended vehicles. It’s basically a grounds free mode of transportation- vehicles hang from railways and operate that way. Similar to a SkyTran. Three units are currently operating, one in a German university, one at a German airport and another one in a German city that carries 50,000 passengers per day on a 13.3 km line. A pro to this technology would be that we would not waste precious resources. We would not have to cut down forests to build roads, just lay a track around trees so the suspended vehicles can pass through. A con to this advancement would be that it would take years and years to build a track (especially on top of an ocean or through a forest) and a track can only go so far- nobody would be travelling to Florida from North Dakota on this track.

  7. Re posting an article about transportation technology. Sorry, about that.

I think the Hypersonic Spaceliner would be a big help for specific scenarios besides the awesomeness of exploring to travel at such speed. In a real life scenario, being able to travel in 90m to assist someone’s unique medical treatment would make an enormous difference at that moment. Hopefully, by the time the Spaceliner is active, it will also be a bio-fuel flight. As more and more leading technology companies are focused on the global reduction of gas emission and supporting innovative Eco ideas. I hope to see it happening in 25 > years or even earlier.

I think the most worthwhile inventions have being airplanes. Because their inventions have evolved and benefited society in many ways. And the best part is that this technology has created a mean to search for the answers to the hardest questions of the universe.

This article talks about the new electric car that Spain had launched in 2012 named the Hiriko. It has been designed by the MIT Media Lab, and the uniqueness is that when folded ”its length is reduced to 60 inches and is comparable to the width of a typical car.” The idea of this size car is to bring practicality in parking and driving in the city, one of the reasons it speeds up until ~75 mph. Its electric motor, steering, breaks are located in the wheels, which helps condense and save space.

For those that prefer practicality, rather than space or a “fancy car”, and you are not higher than 6 feet tall, the Hiriko can be of great help for daily errands. The price in the market back in 2012 was launched at $ 16.350,00.

  8. What i learned from this article is that some people are trying to make a space liner so people can travel around the world faster than any air liner.

  9. Yes, I do think the hypersonic passenger ship will exist but I think it will be one of the least used forms of transportation due to price and body stress to the passengers.
The submarine. I have always loved subs and the idea of deep sea exploration.

  10. Right when I saw the picture of the new Hypersonic Spaceliner I thought it looked sweet. I think that it would be a huge upgrade in our technology side of things. And to see how fast this spaceliner could actually go is almost unbearable. My transportation I find interesting is are the planes being
invented and being woked to be improved every year. To me, this could
change how we travel from from to place, whether it is safer or more fast.

I think the space liner could happen but it wouldn’t be for years to come. I don’t think I would be one of the first to try it out. I’m curious to see how they can go that fast and not crash or have something go wrong. I think they are all very important developments throughout history because we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. I found the one about Richard Trecithick constructing a successful steam locomotive very interesting.
    http://www.navigantresearch.com/research/stop-start-vehicles
This article is about stop-start vehicles. The vehicle would automatically stop its engine when stationary and fire back up again when ready to move. The reason for this is it would save significant quantities of fuel and reduce vehicle emission in traffic jams. There are still many kinks that have to be worked out before this can become a real thing but I think it would be very beneficial.
Right away I thought the poop idea was gross but reading about it I don’t think it’s such a bad idea. If they can make it work and it doesn’t smell, I’m all for it.

  12. I most definitely believe that Hypersonic Air travel will one day become a reality because as of right now, we as humans can already fly to the moon, I don't see why traveling at speeds of 15000 miles an hour within the Earth Atmosphere will be a problem in 60 years. As said in the article, we already have some technology used to propel us in this direction, just more innovation needs to done for this to become reality.
I believe the most important invention classified in the quiz was the submarine invented by Cornelis Drebble in the 17th century. It was not only designed to make an underwater attacks on the Allies, but attached gunpowder to the hull of their vessels using a screw-like device, eventually drilling a hole in the hull and leaving a fuse bomb, destroying the ship, all its crew members and food, weapons, and vital living supplies. I believe that the submarines helped lessen the Germans blow in losing the 2nd World War.
    http://www.livescience.com/48942-cooling-buildings-without-electricity.html
An article that I found interesting was cooling buildings without electrcity. This would save time and energy, which would prevent from polluting the earth with nuclear electricity to heat up buildings. This is another cool invention to again make life healthier and easier.
My thoughts on the human waster bus fuel system is a very good idea, excrement cannot be used for anything else, so using it to fuel cars and not pollute the atmosphere with harmful carbon dioxide is a good idea.

  13. This type of air travel is more convenient but the pricing is outrages. I would rather take a twenty hour plane ride that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. But maybe if this does happen years after it has come out the prices may drop. It is unbelievable that we as humans can make a machine that transports people safely to a destination that is around the world in the matter of an hour, but are we sure it is truly safe? Even to this day we are having problems of airplanes crashing and we can not find them. I think instead of creating faster airplanes we should be focusing on fixing the ones that we do have. Maybe start making a GPS system for airplanes so even if they crash they can be located.I am not saying this idea is bad, I just don't think it is what this world needs anytime soon. I am aware it won't be out until 2050, but we should be working on problems that effect our world now.
