  1. Feminism to me, means women's rights, or a movement towards equality of men and women. Whenever I hear about feminism, it is usually involved in events involving women advocating their rights.

    1. I didn't learn anything new from Ms. Watson, except for the fact that she feels very strongly about feminism. I still feel that feminism is right and should be advocated more. I think that we were all created equal, and as such, we all should be treated.

  2. When I think of feminism I think of like the way a lady acts. Like when you call a guy feminine it means he has traits that look like a female. For example if he runs like a girl that would be a feminine trait he has. That's what I think feminism is.

  3. Feminism to me is acting or having feminine qualities. This is really horrible to say, but gay men have feminine qualities. Feminism is all over around us. Obviously most women are acting feminine around me all the time.

    1. Emma Watson has great points. I think our past history on this issue is huge. Who would be the one to go to work? The men. Who had a voice in society? The men. What gender have all our past presidents been? Men. Who would stay home with the kids and cook and clean? The women. With society changing the way is has changed, I think a lot of this needs to change. Emma Watson was spot on with everything she said.

    1. Emma Watson covered it very well. think that everyone needs to be treated the same, wherever it is. I think as of right now that men do get treated a little different than women and I think that it needs and it will get fixed.

  5. To me, it means that woman want the same rights as men. I feel like it mostly happens in the work place dealing with salary and what woman can do. It means that woman can do the same thing as men.

    1. I completely agree with what Emma Watson was saying. I think men do need to be involved in the movement because how can only one gender of the gender equality be involved? It doesn't work without both sides. I liked how she didn't preach about how people should become a feminist but just told about some issues. That, to me, is an important part of a speech. To not shove your beliefs down their throat but to let audience be aware of the issue. I have never really thought about being a feminist or being involved in feminism.

  6. When I think of feminism, I think of women who want to have "more power" than women have now. My personal opinion is that some women take this concept too far. I do think that women are equal to men at a mental level, but not physically. I was in a sociology class my senior year of high school and we talked about a group of feminist who wanted to lower the requirements of being a firefighter, for example the amount of weight they have to be able to carry, or the time it take to run their mile. They wanted to lower them just so women could do it and I do NOT agree with things like that.

    1. I think that there are women out there who give feminists a bad name. People like Emma Watson are trying to show that it should be about equality not dominance. I do think that women should clean the house and make dinner for their families, but I also think that men should do it just as much. Both men and women should be able to say that something is bothering them without being judged. Both men and women should be able to play sports and not be afraid of putting their bodies through hell so that they are the best. Emma Watson made some very good points and I think her words will stick with people.

  7. Feminism is important to everyone, not just woman. Men are effected as well. If a person is to have certain qualities to persue their career, and a woman is not able to do the tasks needed to be completed, she will not get the job; same goes for men. Standards should not be lowered or heightened for either a male or female. We are equal when it comes to rights, but when it comes to physical things and being able to lift 200 pounds, a woman may not be able to do that where as a male could. Men have naturally stronger bodies, they are masculin. But this does not mean that woman are incapable of doing so, we're girls. We like girly things. Give me a credit card and a 8 hour time period and I'll come back with a maxed out card no problem. Do that for a male, he'll take a year to spend half as much as you have. Everyone is different. Feminism is a weird concept to me, I'd like to learn more about it.

    2. I honestly had a very crappy idea of feminism. I always thought it was like woman being like 'ah we rock boys suck we deserve a better life' kind of deal. Emma Watson nailed that speech. I always new that men were involved, but not in the way that she projected it. My boyfriend is emotional, and my ex boyfriend was emotional less, and honestly, the fact that my boyfriend can show his passion for something with tears is beyond attractive. In class when you said your brother cried to one friend one time, I couldn't help but be shocked. Because girls cry to 6 girls every Friday night. I am a feminist now, knowing what it truly means and knowing that it isn't just for woman's rights, it is for EVERYONE on this earth. Children, boys, girls, elders, everyone. I hope someday I can make a change like Emma did for me today.

  8. Feminism means believing that women can do anything that men can do, and that women are capable of many things. For a lot of people they feel that woman are cheated in certain things. For instance if someone said we need more man power, they didn't mean that they didn't need woman they meant that they need more people not just men and a feminist may or may not be offended by this.

    1. I believe Emma Watsons speech was very moving and I completely agree with the message she put across. I believe in if you have the proper skill set and capabilities to do something you should be able to do that job or activity or what have you. If a woman has the same skill set as a man they both should be paid the same or treated the same with the same respect. Many people will be hard to change over to this theory of feminism but I believe its not completely out of the question to see some change. Overall when she asked the help of men to join the movement showed her true character and what the real message is and that is equality.

    2. I never thought of man power being taken that way. It opens a new perspective for me.

  10. I think feminism is the equality between males and females in today's society.
Feminism to me means that I, as a female, am equal to a male in all aspects of my life. Feminism was unheard of in much earlier years, like way back when females didn't have the right to vote or go to school. Today, women are considered equal the men. Feminism applies to my life because I am a female currently living in a VERY male dominated society and when it comes to sports I am very competitive and will do almost anything to beat a male.

    1. I agree with everything that Emma Watson said during her speech. It's very interesting that she brought up some issues that males have in our society- like suicide being the number one reason for death among males in the UK. However, it seems like females all over the world have much more severe issues. Like Emma said, females are getting married as children to people that they probably don't even know. In a lot of countries, mostly foreign, females are 100% inferior to the male population.

  11. I think feminism is the equality of men and women. Also the equality of women and their rights. Hearing feminism, I think it has to do with women fighting for their rights. I also think it has to do with women being treated below men due to the fact they are a girl. Being a girl in today’s society I think for the most part we have the same rights as men because of the women that fought for it years ago. Some time ago women didn’t always didn’t feel the way we do now.

    1. I now know feminism isn’t just women’s rights but men’s too. Its gender equality. I didn’t know much about this topic because I haven’t dealt much with it but I’m glad I watched the video. I figured this was a problem years ago and it was resolved now but I have learned that it’s a constant problem. For me, hearing a women around my age talk so passionately about this makes me listen more because I know that this is a problem even at our age. I liked how she delivered her speech, she was very informative.

  12. I believe the definition of Feminism has something to do with women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality towards men. Basically feminism is women fighting for their rights to be able to not have to have a set of rules telling them they aren’t allowed to do certain things. Feminism applies to female’s life because we would like to have equal rights as the men do. We should be able to do what they do and there shouldn’t be a problem.

    1. I strongly agree with Emma Watson because you spoke the truth. She spoke for many voices meaning, many women want equal rights but wouldn't dear speak upon their feelings. I also strongly agree that men are the ones that can help change things. Women should be able to have the right to do what men do. They should be able to have their own opinions. Emma Watson voiced a very strong speech and Grasp a lot of people attentions. Women should have the right to pursue their dreams and not have to depend on people having to tell them what they can and cannot do.

  13. Feminism is the justification of women's rights through political, social, and economic equality to men. Feminism to me is very important because I strongly believe women need to have equal rights such as in the workforce and in society. Feminism applies to my life because my mum is equal to or more superior to my dad in making decisions and raising the family. I believe that women are becoming stronger and in some cases superior in society and in family situations. I first thought that Feminism is women trying to become problem dictators to overrule the earth with 'women power' but Emma Watson's speech totally changed my opinion of 'Feminism'. The UN is trying to equate feminism to all countries but this is going to be nearly impossible to achieve as middle eastern countries believe that women are basically servants to men because it is based on their religion.

  14. Feminism is the equality of men and women in the world. In todays society it is drifting away from us in certain aspects. I think that Emma Watson is correct and is pushing toward a good movement. I think that every man and women are created equally and there should be no discrimination toward one another. That being said I am all for the He For She movement.

  15. Feminism to me is like.. Well I think is treating women with respect, and has to do with women's rights and being treated equal.

  16. The word feminism is defined differently between each person, race, and religion. To me it is the equality between woman and men; that each of them have the same opportunity. Many jobs are created for a stronger body type and certain people were not built for them. Everyone has a different type of physical stand point. For example in the movie Rudy football players are pictures to be tall and muscular. He is neither. He is shorter, and not as muscular as the other players; but he has a bigger heart then any of the other players. When he finally got his opportunity he showed that he could make the play. His coach determined his capability on his size, but never gave him a chance. This example explains that when you try your hardest even as a woman, you are able to do something. If you work your harder and you are able to do the equal amount as the other person who is fighting for job opportunity. For me I don't feel I am affected by feminism. I fight for what I want and I feel that the men around me also have one.

    1. After watching the speech I realized that what she was saying was correct. That both men and woman have to come together to make this idea, not just an idea but for it to be the future. Men are the ones who need to speak up. All girls growing up were picked on and this is what forced them to think that they should now be in control. Some woman can be, others can not. This is the same boat as men, its about the person personality not there gender. I found it intriguing when she stated that more men are dying from suicide each year. This needs to be stopped. With there voice it could be, it could also change the word feminism and how people understand it.

  17. Feminism is an attitude or a thought towards how women should be expected to behave in society. It is the thinking of equal rights towards women, and their needs. It is the thinking that is contrary to the traditional men and woman at work and in relationships. Feminism stands for equality towards women rights and decisions.

Feminism speaks loud in my personal life. Mainly for being because I was brought up in Latin culture, and which it stands more in the traditional rights and expectancy towards women in the work force and with relationships. Feminism gives me the courage to stand up for what I believe it’s ethical and “fair”in a “traditional” world. Feminism helps me not to be afraid to speak and make my decisions.

  18. what it means is that there is a right that all men and women have. what have i learned in this video with Emma Watson is that woman is fighting for their rights.

  19. Feminism is not just an important subject for women but is equally as important to men. In Emma Watsons speech at the United Nations, we were made away of a different view of feminism. She is inviting men to stand up for women in this equality movement. With out men this cant be achieved, we need to be on the same page as one another. Feminism does not only affect daughters, mothers and sisters but can affect men in other ways like vulnerability and dealing with emotional and mental problems. I think this has helped this equality push on a whole other level.

  21. Seeing how the 'He for she"movement is taking place in society has been quite exciting for me. As fighting for women and children's rights is an area I want to focus in my career. I would like to see the "view"towards feminism change within the next years, as women and men stand up to speak up without fear, as Emma showed us.

  22. Feminism is the way that woman act. For instance, if a man gets a pedicure, he shares a feminine trait.

  23. Feminism is a way that women use to make men feel bad that their more successful and judgmental to us, the women. Because they are. the reason why women aren't as successful in business is not because we try its because no matter how hard we try the stuck-up power hungry boss man tells us that its impossible. But Feminism cannot work until women realize.
